First days at ESWC 2009

My first day and ESEC 2009 is almost over. Well, this is actually my third working day and fourth day at such warm and peaceful place as Crete.

During the first day i just discovered surroundings and visited Hersonissos. Then was a first tutorial day, I'm glad that I selected the Extreme Design (XD): Pattern-based Ontology Design tutorial. Nice review of knowledge and something new that I think is very important. Different talks about ontology patterns occurred here and there since 2004 as I remember. Now, here you are, one of the sites to check:

We accomplish hands-on lab in pair with Harry Halpin, and it was really funJ Even during the first day, I met many people whom know from other similar events like this conference. We also discussed with Henry Story (aka BabelFish) of details on FOAF + SSL:

I also met Eero Hyvonen from Helsinki University of Technology (TKK) – he also came from Finland, but with a group of colleagues. They have few papers to present at ESWC 2009.

During the next, tutorial, day, I participated to the 1st International Workshop on the Semantic Sensor Web (SemSensWeb 2009). This is where my primary interest at these days is. Nice to hear that both, industry and educational institutions are going towards to Semantic Sensor Web. Still, many things to do... There were many great people at the workshop. Worth to mention one of the Chairs, Manfred Hauswirth from DERI, an author of "Semantic Reality – Connecting the Real and the Virtual World" paper; Robert Barta, an expert in TopicMaps; Oscar Corcho and Manolis Koubarakis were the other Chairs.

Today there were so many events – interesting presentations, meetings, discussions – that it would require to write a few pages of text. But I'm already tired and the 1st EU "Matchmaking Event" is just about to start.

Selection is done

Well… It has taken only two years and few months to check all these blog opportunities and make a final selection. Blogger.

First, I extensively use Google tools and services in my online work, research and life. Second, there are many gadgets, widgets and different modules available for Blogger. Third, this blog is easily searched with variety of search engines without my effort (and can be searched even more with it). Fourth, I can post to this blog directly from MS Word (yes, it is probably a shame, but I still use this office package, and will use in the future – for the best compatibility I can achieve in our organization as much as university plus research partners-wide). Fifth, o… k, it is enough for this list. The other features are not the most important.

Some other blogs from this list pus few more have some similar to Blogger features as well. But to my opinion, Blogger has the most. And my former blog where I published something from time to time has the least. Sure, I could launch a blog from one of my or available to me servers. The some of the features I would have to organize by myself. And since I didn't get any extra hours for every day, I would not be able to find time for that. At least for the nearest years – who knows for how longJ

Welcome, my new blogging environment!

And You are welcome to my blog!

Yours,

SciAgent
